Ryze loves ya - warts and all!

By Laurie | January 13, 2007

I have been a member of Ryze Business Networking groups since 2002. Over the years, I’ve subscribed and un-subscribed to many networks on Ryze. One of my favorite Ryze networks is Advertising Moms at http://advertisingmoms-network.ryze.com/ I have never unsubbed from that group.

It is a business group compromised of mainly moms in business. Recently we started a fun new little activity at Ad Moms. Fridays are Ad Critique Days. Now before I go any further let’s review:

Critique – the act of criticizing, especially a critical discussion

Criticizing - 1: to consider the merits and demerits of and judge accordingly: evaluate 2: to find fault with: point out the faults of

So basically that translates into: Post your business advertisement on Fridays if you have tough skin because your peers will tear it apart. Of course it is done in the spirit of continuous improvement. But tell me who likes to be told their hard work is no good. Ick! Not me.

However, if you can truly set aside pride of authorship and post an ad with an open mind, Ad Critique Days can be very liberating. Wouldn’t you rather have someone tell you that you have a booger, rather than let you run around with it all day? I would. I also want to be told if I have oregano in my teeth.

I fear I may not have a warm and fuzzy reputation around Ad Moms, especially on critique day. I’m not a fluffy person. I like to cut to the chase. If Fridays were Tell Me Everything You Love About My Ad Day, then I could oblige. But instead it’s called – Ad Critique Day. (as in Critique – the act of criticizing, especially a critical discussion.)

Ya know the one thing that I try to keep in mind whenever anyone gives me an opinion – I take what I like and discard the rest. Take it with a grain of salt.

Come on over - we’ll take ya - warts and all!

“I also want to be told if I have oregano in my teeth.”

LOL Laurie! That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George thought he had aced a job interview, only to find out that he had a HUGE piece of broccoli in his front teeth the whole time. HAHA.

It is a cleansing day, Friday is. Kind of scary to put yourself out there to have others say what is not so great. But it is just Words and you can learn from a lot of experts on how to bundle you words so your advertising efforts are not wasted!

    Ciao!

[…] Laurie Ayers.  Laurie is an experienced writer and serves as our ad copywriter at Advertising Moms.  She blogged about our Ad Critique Friday’s (which have been nonexistent through the holidays and we need to get them rolling again!) and shared that she really appreciates the willingness of others to be critiqued. Laurie,

Thanks for the tip on Advertising Moms. I would love to have women who are ‘direct’ critique my site. It’s only the only way to improve!
