Shoes, glorious shoes

By Laurie | January 21, 2007

Have you flown lately? Checkpoint security – not a favored place among many. It used to be that you did not have to take your shoes off, but if you chose not to and you alarmed, you were then required to go for additional screening.

In some airports they do tell you that you have to remove them. My tip of the day is if you do not want to walk on the floor without your shoes, don’t take them off, just tell the person flagging you in that you’ll go for additional screening. That way you can sit down in a chair while you remove your shoes so that they can be sent through the x-ray. Your tootsies will never touch the floor.

Many, many travelers are not aware of the metal shanks in their shoes. They’d get a look of shock when the walk-through metal detector alarmed. The metal shank helps with arch support. As a rule if it has a heel, it has steel.

Of course it is faster for you to just whip off your shoes, walk through and be happy!
